Why is there no power in my light switch?
More probable is a broken wire or wire joint, blown fuse/tripped breaker or even a tripped GFCI (which could be a breaker or a receptacle, and not necessarily in the same room). The best way to check to see if there is power entering the switch box is with a voltmeter.
Why do my bathroom light switches keep failing?
The cause might be something really obvious, but it’s certainly not anything that i or my stepdad (who’s a retired design & technology technician) have been able to figure out. Please, if anyone else has experienced this issue and knows what the problem is i’d love to hear from you, because right now i’m the dark.
How does power go to a light switch?
What it sounds like you have is called a switch leg. Power comes down one wire, goes through the switch, then up the other wire to the device being controlled. As Wildie mentioned you won’t (or shouldn’t) have a neutral in the sw box. I know this is wordy, but does this make sense??
What does it mean if your light switch box is not grounded?
If you only have one cable to the switch box, this means that there will be no neutral in the box. You say that the box is not grounded, so you will not have reference ground for your meter.

What to do if your light fixture has no power?
You can use your meter to check for 120v. between the known hot wire and the related neutral. Since you’ve been accessing both the fixture and the switch, a neutral problem would most likely be in the connections there. Check the light and the switch box. Let us know what you find. Bob. Why do I have no power in my bathroom?
GFI’s are receptacles that are usually used around wet locations to prevent electrocution in wet/water/damp locations, its a safety measure. Go around the bathroom and reset all the GFI’s. There is a “test” and “reset” button, push the test and then the reset button, see what happens.
What to know about light switch wiring before you try any?
The white wire to the switch should be marked black to indicate that it is hot. (Ground wires are not shown.) If the line carrying power comes into the light box first, the circuit must still be wired so the switch interrupts the black line. The white wire from the service panel is wired to one side of the light.
