Why is one of my skimmers not working?
If your pool skimmer is not skimming it will generally be for one of three reasons: the level of water in your pool is too low (or too high) you are not getting sufficient suction in your skimmers to pull in the debris from the surface of the pool.
Why is skimmer suction low?
After backwashing or cleaning the filter (and pump basket), you have what is known as the clean, or start-up pressure on the gauge. When pressure rises 5-10 lbs on the gauge, as a result of the filter loading up with dirt, flow rates will reduce, and this will result in lower suction at the skimmer.
Why doesn’t my pool have suction?
Suction-Side Problems If the vacuum doesn’t work, it’s usually either because air is getting into the vacuum hose or into the suction side of the pool pump. The presence of air in the lines is preventing the system from drawing water as it should.
Why does my pool skimmer have no suction?
When your pool skimmer has no suction, the cause is most likely a blockage. This can put the entire filtration system of the pool into question, as there will be low water pressure. And if your pool skimmer is clogged, how then do you unblock it? Also, how do you prevent the skimmer from clogging again?
Can a pool vacuum with no suction work?
Yes to this being a “new to us” pool. We did have the pool manually vacuuming a few days back when the skimmers had adequate suction. With the skimmers not functioning anymore I cannot get a properly primed vacuum to work correctly.
How can I tell if my pool pump is suctioned?
If the water level in the pool is correct then you need to determine whether you are getting suction in your skimmer or skimmers. With the pool pump running on filter can you see water being drawn into the skimmers? If you can’t see water coming in then try putting a hand over one of the inlet ports at the bottom of the skimmer.
Can a skimmer be used in an above ground pool?
For the above-ground pool, the skimmers used are the kind that only floats on the swimming pool water but still does the same things as the in-ground pool skimmer. Most in-ground pool skimmers are built into its upper sides, wherein the suction draws debris and traps it.
Click to expand… If the pump had normal water flow when the main drain was off then your skimmers have normal suction. It is the only place the water can be coming from into the pump. Suction into the skimmer is often not noticeable on the surface.
