Why is my fuel tank not filling up?
”The most common reason why your fuel tank is not filling up is because you have a clogged or a faulty evaporative emissions control system (EVAP). If your EVAP is clogged or faulty, you won’t be able to fill your gas tank.”
What happens if a gas tank is not vented?
If your tank is not vented, then you must run a vented gas cap. The effect of using a non-vented cap, is similar to what happens when you try to pour liquid from any canister, that doesn’t have some form of vent. Non vented tanks using non vented caps, have actually been known to collapse.
Is the Gen 3 Cool Fuel Module issue?
The early model “Gen 3 Cool Fuel Module” that many of us have on our sterndrive Searays has major design issues, and not just the issue of corrosion at the raw water coolant lines that Frank W posted a while back. A larger issue concerning the fuel itself.
What is the issue with the cool fuel?
A larger issue concerning the fuel itself. It seems that there is a known paint delamination issue with the inside of the module where the paint peels off the casting and clogs the fuel passages, high and low pressure fuel pumps, and fuel regulator.
Is there a fuel problem on my MerCruiser?
Well, after chasing a fuel problem around for the better part of two weeks, I finally discovered an issue that Mercruiser has known about since 2004 but is in no hurry to discuss.
What to do if there is no fuel in the tank?
If this doesn’t tempt you (heh, heh) visit your local marine store and buy a primer bulb such as those used to prime an outboard motor and use that to ‘suck’ on the line. All the above assumes there is no fuel pump in the tank to feed this line. If there is, all bets are off!! Posted By: crawford on 08/11/09 03:00pm
Can you fill a 24L tank with 6 gallons?
24L = 6 gallon. You did not add enough to fill the tank if you went the distance. Now exclude that comment about a sensor for the second flap and do as told – push that fuel nozzle in and push down the second flap. Adding additives needs that long funnel pushing down both flaps.
How can I tell if my fuel tank is full?
First, FILL the tank to at least 3/4 full!!! Then remove the line just before the filter and try sucking on it using your mouth. You may be able to hear a noise from the tank or detect that you are sucking pure (but smelly) air. You could also try blowing into it at this point listening carefully for a bubbling sound from the tank.
I think the problem has to do with the fact that the filler tube has an upper and a lower flap. When a fuel nozzle is inserted and opens the upper flap it triggers a solenoid switch that then opens the lower flap. In my case the switch had failed and the solution was to replace the filler tube assembly.
