Why is my boiler pressure high?
Boiler pressure is controlled by the expansion vessel, the balance of air versus water in your central heating system. Too little air in your expansion vessel and the pressure may become too high. resulting in the water coming out of your pressure relief valve.

Boiler pressure should generally be between 1 and 1.5 bars when central heating is turned off. The needle of the pressure gauge should remain above the lower limit set by your boiler manufacturer at all times.

Most, if not all, pressure gauges have coloured markers for the safe and unsafe conditions of the pressure inside of your appliance. Ideally, when the boiler is on, the pressure should be between 1,5 to 2 bars, and when it’s not working – 1 to 1.5 bars.
