Why does my water not turn back on when I shut off the faucet?
My faucet was in need of attention so went below the sink, shut off the valves, unscrewed the supply lines, cleaned the faucet put everything back and now the water won’t turn back on at the valves. It’s not the faucet. Any ideas?

Hook the hoses up to the valve connections, insert & hold them down into the drain pipe to check valve operation & water flow. If the valves are still good, you’ll need to re-check your faucet work. How to turn off water using the main cutoff valve?
Locate the valve inside the chamber and turn the valve clockwise to close it (detail shown in the picture to the right). A pair of channel locks will help you grasp the valve. If the valve at the street has not been operated in a long time, it could be locked up. Whatever you do, DO NOT FORCE THE VALVE.

Why does my water shut off valve keep leaking?
When you tighten the packing nut on your main water shut-off valve, it binds down the packing material against the washer to stop any water from getting through. Over time, though, this packing material can form a solid seal because it hardens or disintegrates, which causes the valve to leak.
Why does my faucet sputter when I Turn on the water?
Aerators, those attachments on the end of the faucet with a little screen in them, are used to reduce water usage. Sometimes, though, particulates in your water flow will collect, and this, too, can cause a bit of sputtering. Simply unscrew them, remove the particulates, and screw them back on for a quick and easy fix.
