Why does my shower head keep clogging up?
Basically, a shower head (like mine, pictured in this post), is constantly spouting water out, every day at your beck and call. Naturally, water has calcium and other mineral deposits which over time can (and will) clog faucets, showerheads and coffeemakers ( have you seen our blog post on cleaning a Keurig yet?
Why does my shower head have low water flow?
However, contemporary showerheads should still put out an even flow of water, even if you would like more water flow, like from the older models. So, if you have a newer model shower head that puts out less water over time, you may have other problems that exist besides the low water flow that they put out.
Why does water come out of shower head and spout?
The 1st time the issues was that the installer used what we call a drop ear 90 to stub out the tub spout. This caused too much resistance causing water to back flush to the head. The 2nd time was that the spout distance was stub out too far from the valve causing the water to travel upward out the shower.
What to do if your shower head is not working?
Not all showerheads are designed the same and after removing one from the water supply pipe at the wall you may not see a plastic disk. If this happens and the flow of water from the supply pipe is adequate, just go buy a new shower head. Shower heads are readily accessible and they are a common replacement part.
