Why does my pool pump lose suction?
If the impeller becomes clogged with debris, water can’t rotate out the sides of the impeller. This decreases suction which reduces water flow through the pump.
What should I do if my pool pump won’t Prime?
Open the filter air relief valve while the pump is trying to prime. If you have a SPA you can adjust the water flow to suck from the SPA drain. (Make sure to change the valve back to the correct position once you are finished either attempting or priming the pump.
What to do when your pool filter loses Prime?
One suggestion is after all of the air has been purged from the filter and no more air comes out of the returns, turn off the pump and listen for any air getting sucked into the filter. It might be really hard to hear but you will probably hear the air bubbling up through the filter.
When to blow out lines on pool pump?
Anytime that it is not operating full of water such as when the pool is closed down or re-opened for the season, there is a potential to get air inside the pump. Before you can operate a pool pump that has air in it, you will need to blow out the lines with water to get rid of any air and replace it with water.
How to Prime a pool pump with a garden hose?
1 Add water with a garden hose on high through the skimmer suction hole. 2 Turn pump on with hose on and in the skimmer suction hole. 3 Watch through the pump lid to see if the pump catches prime. 4 Once the pump catches prime, relieve air at the filter (if applicable) and remove the garden hose.

Can a pool pump leak when the pump is off?
Yes. The quandary is that a pressure side leak (which, when the pump is off, allows the water to drain back to the pool and lets air in) is normally identified by water coming out the pressure side somewhere. In other words, you should have visible water leaking when the pump is on if it’s a pressure side leak.
