Why does my Hayward pool pump not prime?
To get it to prime I must shut all 3 intake valves from my skimmers and the main drain, put water in the basket, turn on the pump and then 1/2 way open the closest skimmer. I must do this 3 times to get the thing to prime. I can not figure this out! I replaced the o ring on the skimmer basket and it primed perfectly for a few days then stopped.
What happens if a pool motor is not priming?
This guide discusses the common problems involved with a motor that is not priming. Most priming problems involve leaks in the suction side of the pump (between the pump and the pool) or clogged baskets. If you have a leak on the pressure side (after the pump), it does not affect prime. You just lose water.
Do you need lubrication for Hayward swimming pool?
Hayward Pumps have self-lubricating motor bearings and shaft seals. No lubrication is necessary Pump and motor must be protected from freezing. Swimming pools require a lot of maintenance to ensure proper chemical balance and efficient cleaning systems.
How do you Prime a swimming pool pump?
Replace the lid, making sure it has a good, tight seal. Turn on the pump and slowly open one suction side valve only. Once the pump has a good flow of water, slowly open the next valve on the suction side. Continue until all valves are open and water is flowing efficiently. Repeat these steps whenever your pump loses its prime.

What should I do if my Challenger pool pump wont Prime?
Make sure there are no cracks, chips, or breaks in the pump basket. If it is a Pentair (previously Pac-Fab) Challenger pump, and it has a factory pump basket with a black handle, make sure the handle is on the attached to the basket . The black handle needs to be snapped onto the basket on both sides so it does not move up and down.
