Why does my de filter lose pressure after primed?
We cleaned the DE filter, put in the DE and the pressure was fine. However, after 1.5 hours, the pressure was gone. We primed the filter and then the pressure is good again. But then, it loses pressure again. Can anyone tell me what is going on? We’ve had our pool and filter going on 8 years. This has never happened before.
What causes the pressure in a water filter to rise?
Pull everything out, hose it clean, hose out the bottom of the filter and put it all back together. How much DE it takes depends on the size of the filter. I have a 36 sq ft filter and it takes 4 lbs of DE as per the label on the filter body. Putting in too much DE will also cause significant pressure rise.
What should the pressure be on a de filter?
The pressure on the DE filter is starting out normal and rising to 30 psi within an hour. When the filter is shut off, it goes back to normal then takes an hour to rise again. I know nothing about DE filters but it sounds to me like this is a mechanical issue. Jeff said he cleaned the DE filter.
Why does my de filter lose pressure in my Pool?
Low flow with low pressure USUALLY means low pump output. A very common cause of prime-loss is a suction leak, often at the pump strainer lid gasket. If you want to send pictures of your pump, filter & piping, we might be able to spot some other places to look. Search PoolForum, PoolSolutions, and other pool websites. I have same problem.

Can a large pool filter cause water pressure to rise?
Very large filters can take months, which is a nice feature for a pool owner. Some filters can have problems however, that allow pool water to bypass the filter and return to the pool unfiltered. This can cause a pool filter pressure to rise slowly, or take weeks to clean up adverse water conditions.

What should I do if my pool filter is too high?
POOL FILTER PRESSURE RISES TOO RAPIDLY If your filter pressure rises rapidly after backwashing (within hours or days), the filter media (sand, cartridge or grids) may be clogged with oils or minerals, requiring deep cleaning with a pool filter cleaner product made for your filter type, or replacement of the filter media.
