Why do I get hot water out of my cold water faucet?
Many experts believe that such a problem may be due to the thermostat in the immersion heater. The thermostat can fail and this leads to hot water overheating and boiling over into the cold-water tap, making the stored water warm. Within a short time, this comes out as warm water via the cold-water tap.
How can I stop hot water from siphoning from cold line?
The only way to ensure this doesn’t happen is to turn the hot water on before turning on the cold water, then the hot water doesn’t siphon out of the heater via the cold line. If I start the washer and I feel the cold inlet going to the water heater is hot and I turn on the hot water at a faucet it barely trickles out of the hot faucet.
Why is hot water back flowing into cold water tank?
This happens over a period of a 90 mins (water is only heated for 20 mins). Having looked in the tank I can see that water is being backfilling the large cold water tank not via the open vent pipe but the pipe at the bottom of the tank where the cold water should flow to the Cylinder.
Why is my water heater siphoning cold water?
If you use a shower head with a shutoff that is connected via a hose and you leave the faucet on and only turn off the water with the shower head, it also can cause this problem. The water valve in a washing machine might cause the problem. You can add a check valve on the cold water pipe to the water heater to eliminate the problem.
Why does my water tank keep siphoning water?
Then, if the hose is improperly installed or poorly designed, and extends 3″ down, it’s maybe 4″ below the water line, which will allow 1/3 of the capacity to be siphoned out. Add to that the vacuum effect, because it’s a closed system, and it can pull down the center of the tank, which helps keep the siphoning going.
Why does my hot water heater have sediment in it?
Out of sight, out of mind—the water heater tank is something most don’t think about until the shower starts going from hot to cold too quickly. Over time, your hot water heater tank will accumulate sediment from the minerals and particulates in your fresh water supply.
