Why are there bubbles in my pump basket?
When I saw the tiny bubbles from the returns and in the basket, I released the air valve on top of the filter till the water came out in a stream. The bubbles in the returns and pump basket went away. It happens when you clean the filters or the pump basket.
Where do air bubbles come from in a swimming pool?
Let’s read on to learn how to find air bubbles. Air bubbles occur when the pool’s suction system pulls in the air instead of water from your swimming pool. The air gets into your system before the point where water enters the filter; that is to say, at the skimmer, pump, or the unions. Let’s look at each of these areas to assess the problem. 1.
Why does my Hayward pump bubble and cavitate?
If there is a leak at the point where your pump separates suction from pressure, you can get a nice bubbling/cavitating effect. Sometimes this is due to a bad diffuser o-ring, or sometimes there is a crack inside the housing. The latter is particularly prevalent on hayward super pumps along the seam in the mold.

Is the air in the pump basket while running?
The water flows, fills up to the inlet pipe and sometimes to the top of the pump basket, but never completely solid with water. This has been true of both the 2HP Hayward and now my 3/4HP Hayward.
What to do if water comes out of pump basket?
If you do, you probably want to disassemble to pump and clean it up. If there isn’t a bunch of stuff in the impeller, place a garden hose into the inlet side of the pump basket, and wrap a rag or towel around it to seal it off. Water should flow easily back to the pool.
