What should the pressure be on a de filter?
The pressure on the DE filter is starting out normal and rising to 30 psi within an hour. When the filter is shut off, it goes back to normal then takes an hour to rise again. I know nothing about DE filters but it sounds to me like this is a mechanical issue. Jeff said he cleaned the DE filter.
Is the Pentair FNS plus de filter working?
The Pentair FNS Plus DE filter has been working great till this recent heat wave. I ran the filter for about 6 hours and noticed a “cloudyness” to the water. Then after not doing anything for a few days, algae appeared. For 3 days, I’ve been back flushing ever hour or so. I’ve even taken the grid out for cleanings. But the pool is still cloudy.
What to do when your de filter goes down?
First thing everyone needs to do is take the de filter out and see what the pressure is at when you put the everything back together without the filter in the tank. If the pressure goes down, then you have a problem with your filter. Simplify the process, it is a small trick of the trade.
Why does de pressure go down after cleanout?
When you turn the filter off the DE often falls off the grids and some of the dirt stays on the bottom, so the pressure doesn’t go right back up instantly. It could just be that the filter is really dirty and needs to be throughly cleaned out. You also see something very much like this if you put in too much DE initially.

What should the pressure be on a sand filter?
As long as the PSI is no more than 10 PSI above the ideal, you don’t have to do much. But when the PSI reaches 10 or more PSI over your ideal, it’s time to clean the filter. Pull out the cartridge to clean it, or backwash a DE or sand filter. If the pressure goes back to the ideal, you’re done.
