What is the correct bar pressure for a combi boiler?
between 1 and 1.5 bar
The pressure of your combi boiler should be between 1 and 1.5 bar. If your pressure reads at less than 1 bar, it’s possible that you have lost water from the system via a leak.
Why does the bar pressure keep dropping on my boiler?
A boiler that keeps losing pressure is therefore always cause for concern. There are two main problems that typically cause a loss of pressure – water escaping somewhere in the system or a failure of the expansion valve and resulting damage to the pressure relief valve.
Does water pressure go up when heating on?
When you turn the heating on the water in the pipes and radiators heats up and expands. This water expansion causes the pressure to increase in the whole system. So, when the heating is on you should notice the boiler pressure on the gauge to increase slightly but not above 2 bar.
What should the pressure be on a combi boiler?
Most combi boiler pressure gauges will mark the pressure between 0 – 4 bar. Time for a new boiler? Get a fixed quote today, with installation as quick as tomorrow. Thanks!
What to do when your boiler pressure reaches 1 bar?
When it reaches 1 bar, you can close the valves by turning them clockwise. Step 5: When your gauge has settled at 1 or 1.5 bars, you can switch your boiler back on. When you’ve increased the pressure in your combination boiler, it should be working well.
How does a combi boiler work in a shower?
These models connect to both your hot and cold water supply and deliver water at the temperature you want. Because they require hot water fed by your boiler – and a combi appliance has limited capacity – they may not deliver water at the pressure you want, particularly if other showers or taps are in use.
Is it normal for boiler pressure to go up?
As we’ve mentioned, a rise in pressure of under 0.3 bar is normal for boilers. But, if you notice that the higher the pressure goes, the quicker it increases (and it’s rising by well above 0.5 bar), there is likely to be a pressure release issue.

Why does a combi boiler have an expansion vessel?
All closed systems (i.e. a combi boiler) have an expansion vessel to allow for excess water levels. In these cases, there is a pipe leading from the regular boiler to the tank. Unfortunately, these pipes can become clogged by dirt and debris, which results in a pressure build up within the system.
How can I re pressurise my gas boiler?
Boiler pressure systems differ, so it’s always best to check your manual, to see if you can re-pressurise it yourself. Your boiler may also have instructions on the rear of the control panel. (If you need any tools to remove this panel, don’t touch it! Get in touch and we’ll have a Gas Safe engineer do this for you). Top tip!
