What is an air relief valve on a pool filter?
Over time air becomes trapped inside the filter, causing pressure to build up inside the filter body. To alleviate this pressure filter’s are installed with an air relief valve positioned on top. Opening the air relief valve allows the air built up in the filter to bleed out slowly, removing the pressure problem.
Why does the filter drain when the pump is turned off?
Try lubing the o-ring on the pump basket housing lid and see if that helps. As far as i know, a Hayward mulitport, (installed on top of the filter) when turned from filter to backwash, will release water and the pump basket will drain. I believe this is normal. Someone correct me if i’m wrong.
Why is my pump basket not filling up?
If it is less than 1/2 way up the skimmer it could be sucking in air at the skimmer. Also make sure the pump basket and the filter are clean. A really dirty filter can reduce flow and cause you to lose prime. Make sure the pump basket lid is getting a good seal by putting silicon pool lube on the lid o-ring.
Where are the bubbles in the pump basket?
The pot is filling 100%. The air bubbles are very small and they seem just to circulate at the bottom of the basket near the opening where the impeller is located. I am not losing prime.
How is a strainer different from a filter screen?
Strainer uses a perforated plate or screen mesh to remove larger particles from a process stream. The major advantage of a Strainer is that it is reusable. The filter screen is only used once and must be changed when it clogs. The main difference seems to be in diameter of the holes in the media screen also termed as mesh size in case of strainer.
When to clean out pool pump strainer basket?
If you don’t, the pool will have decreased water flow which means reduced filtration and ultimately, the dreaded algae bloom. The pump basket should be cleared out weekly and even more frequently during the fall and spring when there is more debris in the pool. Learn more here about how to clean your pump strainer basket.
What’s the difference between a pot and a T strainer?
T-Type or Basket Type Strainer T type or Basket type or Pot type strainer is characterized by a vertically orientated chamber, typically larger than that of a Y-type strainer. Basket type strainers can only be installed in horizontal pipelines, and for larger, heavier basket strainers, the base of the strainer needs to be supported.
Can a strainer be installed on an upward flow pipe?
Installation is not possible with upward flow, as the strainer would have to be installed with the opening of the pocket pointing downwards and the debris would fall back down the pipe. T type or Basket type or Pot type strainer is characterized by a vertically orientated chamber, typically larger than that of a Y-type strainer.
