What happens when you put your hot tub in sleep mode?
While your hot tub is in sleep mode (or ‘SL’ & SLP mode on some models), the jets will operate occasionally to filter the water. In sleep mode, your hot tub’s heater will usually only kick on once the temperature dips below 20 degrees of the set temperature.
How often is the hot tub going to run?
Your hot tub is going to run its normal filtration (whatever you have the spa set at) time and during that time is when your heater will run. If you have your filtration set to 2 hours it is going to run twice a day for 2 hours a piece.
Is it better to turn hot tub on or off?
While it may seem counterintuitive, according to the laws of thermodynamics, it takes less energy to keep your hot tub at a steady, warm temperature than turning the unit on and off regularly. Plus, your hot tub is likely insulated and will therefore retain a good amount of heat.
When to use sleep mode on a Balboa?
The filter will be going still, but the heater heats less often, and the jets only go every few hours rather then every hour or so in standard mode. It’s so you can keep the spa going 24/7 but save money when not using it.

How does economy mode on a hot tub work?
Rather than heating the water consistently to maintain your set temperature, economy mode will only heat the water during your scheduled filtration times. Simply put, economy mode reduces your hot tub energy costs by running your heater less. The downside of economy mode is temperature fluctuation.
What happens to your electric bill when you heat up your hot tub?
Heating up your water adds more to your monthly electric bill than maintaining the water at a constant high temperature. After you heat up your new hot tub for the first time, your next electric bill will be slightly higher than it will be in subsequent months. Spa water replacement is part of normal maintenance.
Is it normal for a hot tub to overheat?
That is not the case. It’s actually just the natural process of how the Arctic Spa’s designed to utilize that excess heat. So, if you’re running into this, where your spa is actually hotter than where you want it to be, keep in mind also that the spa is really designed to run at 100 degree or above.
