What happens if gray tank is full?
If your grey tank is full, water will stop draining from the sink and/or shower pan and they will continue to fill with water. If your black tank is full, the same thing happens except it is much nastier.
What to do when Grey tank won’t drain?
It’s going to be harder to get a ton of water into the tank all at once. First put holding tank treatment into the kitchen sinks, bathroom sink, and bathtub and then try and dump as much water as you can down each drain all at the same time to get as much water flowing into the grey tank as possible. Hopefully doing this will unclog your grey tank.
What kind of vent does grey water tank have?
The Grey Water Tank will have a roof vent to keep any odors away. This tank will have it’s own Waste Gate Valve to drain it. The shape of both the Black and Grey Tank is such that it has a “low point” in it to facilitate it draining quickly. This picture doesn’t show a vent hole, but it does have one.

What’s the difference between grey and black water tanks?
Grey water is all the water used in your RV, except what goes to flush the toilet. That water is called black water. The water used for everything else — showering, cooking, washing dishes, and all other water-related activities — goes into the grey water tank. Both grey and black water tanks drain into the same outlet but have different valves.

When to close black tank and open gray tank?
When the black tank is empty, I close that and open the gray tank valves to drain the gray tanks and flush everything out. When everything is empty, I set things up as originally described (lower gate valve and black tank closed, gray tank valves open).
