What happens if a slide out is stuck in an RV?
If the slide out is stuck in, many times an RV can become almost unlivable. This is particularly true if the slide out encroaches upon the function of other amenities or blocks entryways, especially if it blocks a room that someone is already inside of.
Why are my slide outs not going in or out?
If you hear a weird noise when you try to extend the slides, it could be the pump trying to work. If you just can’t seem to make those slide outs go in or out, it is possible on most RVs to manually extend or retract the slides.
Can a slide out motor be removed from an RV?
If it is a through frame slide out, you can remove the actuator arm from the motor and the mount on the slide out. Once the actuator arm is removed, the room can be slid in with the help of some other people. Do not travel with the arm off though, you would have to add supports inside to prevent the room from extending.
What to do if your slide out slides are crooked?
To solve this issue, you can remove some of the carpet and replace it with slide out slickers. Or you can shim your slide out slides with thing, 1/4” thick, aluminum flat stock. With the latter method you can interchange the metal and thickness to fit your situation.

What to do when slide outs don’t move?
Make sure the house batteries are charged completely, or if at all possible, plug your RV into shore power. This will indicate whether the problem may be the batteries or not. If you push the button for the slide outs and can hear the motor running but the slides don’t move, check the motor’s shear pins.
What causes an RV to slide out of a jam?
Overloaded motors can also cause significant issues for your RV to slide out. If there is a jam or some kind of mechanical issue, your motor may experience resistance and will try to draw extra energy to complete its task. If it’s stuck this way long enough, it is just going to break down.

Is it safe to drive with slide out?
It is most definitely not safe to drive with the slide out extended. You will have to get it closed up before you’ll be able to safely drive your RV again. An RV slide out being stuck in the closed position is a lesser evil than it being extended, but can still cause problems.
Can you travel in an RV with the arm off?
Do not travel with the arm off though, you would have to add supports inside to prevent the room from extending. If you have a different type of slide out, let me know. Each slide out has different ways to retract manually. If you don’t know what kind you have, provide the year, make and model of your RV and I will see what they used.
Are there different types of slide outs for RVs?
There are two types of slide outs available. One is hydraulic powered while the other is powered electrically. Both systems come with their fair share of challenges and you do have to be more vigilant when you have a couple of these in your RV.
