What causes a Pentair mastertemp 400 error code E05?
I see more E05 errors that are due to things like a sooted exchanger (fuel delivery, venting), scaled up exchanger (water side), or a low water flow. I see those problems a lot more than a sensor that has gone bad. I could even buy that continued high temps could eventually cause a SFS to fail.

In this case, the thermal regulator had already been changed out, so unless the heat exchanger was plugged up (possible, but not likely) or the pump/filter had an issue- which I saw no sign of- I wouldn’t? suspect a water flow problem. ? What I did notice as soon as I walked in the yard, was the tiny gas meter (pictured).

I tried firing up the MasterTemp this weekend and it fired and heat started, but within a minute or two, the heater would shut off and this code would come up on the display: E05. Anyone have this problem and solved it?
Why does my Pentair pool not show the exhaust temp?
“If you hold down pool on button it displays the exhaust temp. – mine was showing 80 and then flashing 40. Obviously something wrong. There is a sensor on the exhaust that looks like a bolt with 2 wires coming out of it – it’s the stack flue sensor. I took it off, cleaned the terminals, screwed the sensor back in and reattached the wire terminals.

This meter fed not only the 1.5″ line to the 400k btu Mastertemp heater, but a 1.5″ line into the newly remodeled house. I recommended calling the gas company to change out the meter, which they do for FREE.
