Is there a problem with my Winnie generator?
The generator on my 1997 Winnie, a Onan Emerald Plus 5000, was producing power. I checked the connections at the generator’s circuit breakers. There was no power at the transfer switch. The power leaves the generator via some 12 gauge stranded aluminum wire.
Are there any problems with the Onan Winnebago Generator?
Onan’s engineering is nowhere near what it should be. Circuit boards are open to the elements. Connectors are open to the elements. Wires are free to chafe and burn through. They could have done a much better job. Beware if you are looking at a Winnebago be sure to carefully check the generator and the way it is mounted!
Where does the power go from a Winnebago Generator?
The power leaves the generator via some 12 gauge stranded aluminum wire. That short run terminates in a box where the copper from the motorhome is attached via a twist connector.
Can a sigineer Charger automatically start a generator?
All Sigineer Power inverter chargers are equipped with the capability to automatically start a generator when battery voltage goes low to alarm and turn the generator off when charging is completed. When the inverter goes to low battery alarm, it can send a signal to start a generator.

Why is my power converter not working in my RV?
RV distribution center troubleshooting can show whether the electrical problem is in the wiring or the outlet itself or instead in the circuit breakers, which service the electrical system that feeds into your appliance. Who knows, the problem might be at the source in the campground or storage facility.
Why is my aux switch not working on my RV?
All house systems are working without the chassis. Found the solenoid, with the chassis battery disconnected I started the chassis using the aux switch and house battery. Then after turning the engine off, hecked the disconnected cables at the chassis battery and they showed 12 volts from the house battery.
What happens when the combine / boost switch is not on?
There are two large lugs– when batteries are not combined, they will have different voltage, one for chassis and one for house battery. When the Combine/Boost switch is on, the two large lugs should have the same reading, as the batteries are combined.

How can I tell if my coach switch is bad?
Locate the RELAY/SOLENOID that the switch controls. Your coach maker can tell you where it is. With a voltmeter, it is a very quick and easy test to see if the relay/solenoid is bad or if it is not getting the signal from the switch:
Why does my generator not start on my RV?
On many RV’s I’ve owned the genset starts via the house batteries. However, if they are discharged and cant crank the genset over, once the engine starts and the alternator and engine battery are then in parallel with the house batteries, theres enough power to crank the genset over.
What should I do if my RV generator wont start?
If your generator is acting strange or won’t start, checking the oil should be one of the first things you do. Although generators run on standard motor fuel, not all of them use the same kind. If the oil is low, check your RV owner’s manual to see what type of oil you should use in the generator.
When did my Winnebago Generator start having problems?
But these problems I’ve had with my generator! Open to the elements, it suffered from extensive corrosion and became a major maintenance headache. These problems and photos were documented in 2005. The motorhome, manufactured in 1997, was eight years old. Onan need to shoulder a good part of the blame.
What does it mean when your generator won’t start?
Thankfully, a non-starting generator is usually a minor setback rather than an indication of a more serious problem with the machine. The best place to start with troubleshooting your generator is with some of the most common causes of starting issues.

What happens if you run a generator with low oil?
Running your generator at low oil levels can severely damage the engine and pose a significant hazard. Before disconnecting the low oil sensor, ensure that your oil is topped off and your oil filters are not clogged.
How to remove a generator from an RV?
GETTING THE GENERATOR OUT First be sure all AC power and batteries are disconnected. This model has 4 bolts that attach it to the bottom surface. Remove the mounting bolts, disconnect the fuel line. Mark and document where all electrical wires go, as needed. Disconnect the 12v wires, disconnect the AC lines. Remove any mufflers
Where does the spray go on a Winnebago Generator?
The spray enters the area where the brushes press on the stator. All that dirt and salt gets ground right into the brushes and stator. Air also flows around the front of the generator as there is a space between the door and the generator tray. If this image is too small, click on it for a larger image.

What should I do if my generator is running too much?
The next thing to know is how to reset the circuit breaker on the Onan. If you try to run too many high power devices, such as a microwave and hair drier, at the same time you are likely to trip the circuit breaker on the Onan. By high power we include things like the air conditioner and perhaps your coffee maker.
Why is my generator not working in my RV?
Some RV generators are stand-alone units and do not have a fuel line connected to your RV fuel tank. So, in some instances, your fuel may be low in the generator itself. Another common scenario is the fuel has been sitting in the generator between travel seasons and is just old.
Why are my air conditioners not running on generator?
Turn them OFF and then back ON. That will supply power to the ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) or outlet that Rich mentioned. From that point onward, shore power and generator power share the same wiring– so the issue is at or before the ATS/connection.
