Is it OK to drink water from upstairs tap?
Your bathroom tap water is perfectly fine to brush your teeth and to wash up. As long as you’re not swallowing the water, you’re unlikely to get lead poisoning. And if you’re likely to get thirsty in the night, bring a glass or bottle of kitchen tap water with you to bed.
What is normal mains water pressure in bar?
1 bar
What is normal mains water pressure? Your water supplier must be able to supply a statutory 1 bar of normal mains water pressure (enough pressure to move water vertically to a height of 10 metres). The water in this tank is usually filthy (ours is brown) because it is being fed through your radiators and hot water tank, plus various bits and pieces from the loft (dust, insects etc.) often falls into it. How can you tell if your bathroom taps are the same as the downstairs ones?
Are the cold taps usually fed from the mains or header tank?
Our building’s manager is trying to tell me that cold taps are always fed off the mains and that the cold water header tank is only used to feed the hot water system.
Is it safe to drink water from the upstairs tap?
If no water comes from the cold taps, upstairs or down, your water is coming from the mains and is safe to drink. I had to laugh when somebody mentioned earlier about the bathroom tap being unsafe to drink from because of people brudhing their teeth. How on earth would brushing your teeth affect your tap?
Why is there no cold water pressure upstairs?
I do some jobs on ‘ the side’ so to speak to gain experience and learn more. I recently went to a customer who has no pressure upstairs on the cold water only. The last plumber they called attached a hose to mains, fed it upstairs , attached it to the bathroom basin cold and flushed the pipework through.

Can you fill a bottle from the downstairs tap?
You could fill a bottle from the downstairs tap so you don’t have to keep getting top ups. I always drink from the bathroom sink tap. It’s mains connected. We know because the main supply was cut off for a while when there was a leak and it stopped flowing. If it was in the tank, it’ll still work. Thanks. Glad I know the reason now.
