Is it good to put stone in between flagstone?
Read that again–stone dust settling down in-between flagstone is a GOOD thing. Small voids may be left underneath your paving units–especially if you are using irregular natural stone. Even if you are using a more uniform paver, the gravel foundation may not compact 100 percent perfectly.
Why does polymeric sand stay in place on stone?
This will lead to headaches. Furthermore, the polymeric sand stays in place because it is glued together and also glued to the stones or bricks it is placed between. it will likely stay glued to itself….but the bricks or stone that it is set amongst–these will not be clean surfaces.
How does sand stay in place between flagstone joints?
You simply sweep the material into the flagstone (or other paver) joints, lightly hose down, then it solidifies. Once it dries and hardens, the sand stays in place. What to do with stone chips on flagstones?
If stone chips are getting all over the surface of your flagstone, then the joints are probably over filled. What I do is I sweep stone dust/screenings in-between the flagstones, filling the joints until the stone dust is even with the top of the flagstone then I hose it down and off.
Why did they not switch to a stone coping?
(Supposedly they could not switch us to a stone coping because of the thickness.) Since then we have not had any issues. They thought that since limestone is porous the salt water was seeping into the stone and once the water evaporated the salt would crystallize causing the stone to slowly break apart.

What was the problem with limestone coping and a salt water system?
Within 1 year our coping started deteriorating. Basically it was pitting and flaking away. It took the builder a while to determine that it was the salt water system. Their solution was to replace the coping and seal it. However, within another year it started happening again!
