The humble check valve is one of the most important components of any pumping system or fluid moving application. If water continually flows back into the pump’s basin, the pump will turn on and off continuously. This will lead to improper pump cycling and eventual burnout.

There should be a weep hole are the bottom of the pipe near the pump. this prevents air lock.. But I see nothing in the instructions on this pump for a weep hole. It can be built in or not needed. Also change that check to a swing.. If the check valve does not close all the way then it is not accomplishing anything.
