Hitler’s Directive No. 51 had focused much of what was left of the German navy onto the English Channel and near Atlantic. The Luftwaffe sent reconnaissance planes to the area on 25 April just as preparations for Exercise Tiger were coming to an end and the LSTs of Convoy T-4 were reaching Lyme Bay.
