How full should an oil tank be filled?
The exact level will depend on the size of your oil tank. But, we would usually recommend that you get your tank refilled when it has reached a quarter full. That way there is little chance that you will run out of heating oil, and you will avoid the impurities running through your heating system.

If oil piping is taken off of the top of the oil storage tank then the pick-up end of oil piping will be stopped above the tank bottom to avoid picking up water or sludge, making the tank tilt not significant. The suggestion that we want to “use all the oil” is a bad one.
