How does direct venting of oil fired appliances work?
In the direct vented system, flue gases are not cooled in a chimney. Heat that is typically lost in the chimney can be extracted in the heating appliance, dropping the gross stack temperature to 300°F-350°F. This raises the steady-state efficiency. (See Figure 2.) Acid will not condense in the short through-the-wall duct; water vapor won’t either.
What do you need to know about Direct vent in a boiler?
Specifications for direct vent and condensing boiler vents may specify that the vent line slopes to indoors where condensate is to be disposed-of at an interior condensate handling system or drain, or they vent may be required to slope to the outside.
How is the clearance for a direct vent determined?
Direct vent gas vent clearance required depend in part on the size in BTUs (BTUH or thousands of BTUs per hour input rating) of the heating appliance. We marked on your gas vent photo the two measurements that are typically made: the vertical distance to the window and the horizontal distance to the window from the nearest point of the gas vent.
What should I do if my oil burner is not vented?
A closed air system with outside intake on the same wall as the exhaust vent will tend to reduce this problem. Clean burner operation is critical to avoid fume and staining problems. Corrosion due to stack temperatures being too low (and resultant condensing) must be prevented.
Is there a way to direct vent my oil boiler?
Visit Direct Vent with Oil Boiler?? GET RID OF CHIMNEY I am adding a second story to my house and the cost to raise my chimney is outrageous (and I did shop around). I was wondering if there was a way to direct vent my oil boiler to the outside and knock down my chimney?

Are there any problems with a direct vent?
An other problem is that flue gases can enter the house through an open window when the wind is right. They also tend to be noisy. Buderus w/ reillo also has a direct vent without a power venter, BUT WHY?
Can a power vent be used as a direct vent?
a power vent has a moter that can and will fail. a direct vent has no motor, and takes all combustion air from outside saving lots of money from infiltration and standby loss. A very good way to go. If set up RIGHT , no sooting!!!! You probably can’t go that root with your older boiler, boiler must be rated for this ( fairly new concept).
