Much like a regular house version does, a smaller scale RV water heater is filled with cold water, which it then heats up to a boiling point to send to your bathroom and kitchen faucets.

The RV hatch vents covers are usually made from thin plastics pieces. Their ability to keep the cold out is questionable at best. You can deal with this issue by adding another layer of Styrofoam right below the covers. Or even better, purchase hatch vent insulator. Any of them will make sure the heat won’t escape from the RV interior.
Where does the cooling effect come from in an RV?
It’s best to use one in each compartment. The cooling effect from most RV refrigerators originates in the freezer compartment and then goes into the main compartment. So, if your freezer is working, but your main compartment is not, you likely have reduced airflow.
What to do if your RV water heater is not working?
Maintain your RV water heater with regular servicing. Turn off power to your water heater. Make sure both the gas and electric switches are in the OFF position, and wait a while for water to cool down. Find the water heater bypass valve, usually located inside the RV behind the heater.
