How do I know if my saltwater chlorinator is working?

The easiest way to be certain if the chlorinator is working is to make sure the cell is clean by checking the needle or production lights on the chlorinator box. When operating, you should also see bubbles (hypochlorite gas) inside the chamber, producing what looks like cloudy water – that’s chlorine being created!

When does a Goldline sodium chlorinator shut down?

Goldline cells will shut down when the current draw gets above 8 amps which can happen with high salt levels and certainly 4400 ppm would shut down the unit. This is done to protect the power supply from high current which can damage components. Also, these units will usually not read high salt unless there is really too much salt.

How does a salt sensor work on a Goldline?

Also, there is no separate salt sensor in the Goldline units. The cell itself is the salt sensor. They use the current delivered to the cell combined with the voltage and the temperature of the water to then calculate the salt level from the water conductivity. This is basically how electronic salt and TDS meters works.

Can a high salt level cause an aqua rite pool to shut down?

A high salt level can cause the Aqua Rite® to shutdown and may begin to give a salty taste to your pool (generally, the salt will begin to be tasted at a level of about 3500-4000 ppm). The salt in your pool/spa is constantly recycled and the loss of salt throughout the swimming season should be small.

Is the salt level on the Hayward Aqua plus wrong?

I have a hayward aqua plus controller which is not showing the proper salt levels; however, when I bring a water sample in the pool store – my salt level is correct. The controller is about 2000 PPM off so it is never producing chlorine. I have tried a new salt cell but the same result.

Why does my aquarite read too much salt?

Always have the salt tested independently of the unit to confirm the salt level before adding salt. Your over salting of the pool is not unusual because many people take the reading on their display as the actual salt level in the pool, when in fact it is and average salt level and it may be skewed by a failing cell.
