- Remove the existing mortar using a hammer and a chisel.
- Lift out the damaged stones to expose the pool beam below.
- Clean any remaining mortar from the newly-created opening.
- Prepare coping repair mix in the bucket (per package directions)

To reset coping stones, use a chisel and hammer to pull up the stone, and chip off any mortar from the sides and bottom. Then chip out and score the mortar bed that sits on top of the beam. Clean it well and moisten with water.

What to do with old vinyl pool coping?
After you have removed the screws you can pry up the old coping and clean up the surface. Most pools have a 6-8″ shelf at the top of the pool wall. Be careful with it, as it may be fragile, or rusty and pitted. If needed, use a wire wheel on corroded spots and treat with heavy epoxy sealant.
