What does it mean to backwash a pool?

What should I do if my pool filter won’t backwash?
Normally, I very quickly go from filter, then pump off, then valve to backwash, then pump on, and I get backwash flow within seconds. However, when I went to backwash it, it took a very long time to prime to backwash (I have a Pentair Sand Dollar filter). And then after the backwash, I waited for 10 minutes to rinse but it never flowed to rinsed.
Where does the PSI go after backwashing the pool?
Considering that RINSE and WASTE water flows are fine, I’m guessing pump and lines up to the filter are all good. After backwashing, PSI only dropped 1 or 2 psi after, still remains kinda high… (just below the border between the green and yellow areas on the gague). It morally sits around half way into the green after backwashing.
Where can I buy a backwash hose for my Pool?
You can buy backwash hoses quite cheaply on Amazon. If your pool drains directly into the sewer then disregard this step. If you do have a valve on the waste pipe then open it so that once you start backwashing the water can flow out. Again, if you don’t have a valve on the waste exit pipe skip this step.
