How do slide locks work?
It’s called the slide stop. When you’ve fired the last round in your pistol’s magazine, the magazine’s follower pushes up against the slide stop and causes it to catch in a recess in the pistol’s slide. This, in turn, causes the slide to be locked back.
Why is my Newmar slideout not working properly?
By moving the axle and cogs I must have accidentally re-aligned the two halves of the sensor thus allowing the control board to see that the conditions were right to operate the slide briefly. The motor was so loose that there was some lag between when the momentary button was depressed and the drive axle started to move.

There is a cog at each slide support rail. The rails support the weight of the slide and provide a track with holes in it to bring the room in or out in conjunction with the momentary switch, motor, axle, and cogs. Pulling myself back inside, I noticed that the axle had play in it. It rotated a bit not much, perhaps 1/8″-3/16″ of an inch.

I tackled the project methodically by first searching for the problem on the internet. Doing this search revealed a troubleshooting guide for our 2005 Newmar’s slideout control boards. This is what I used for my diagnosis. So, I tested as follows: Test – for the correct incoming voltage for the control board.

Per Newmar, operating slide-outs after “dropping air” can cause the slide-outs to get into a bind. This guidance is different from that received when I purchased the Damon Astoria 3-1/2 years ago from PPL Motorhomes in Houston. The technician I had then said to dump air, operate the leveling jacks then extend the slide outs.
