How do I stop my water tank from filling up?
Ensure the pipework is adequately secured, replace any defective float valves. Reducing the flow into the house from the main stop cock outside might help. You can adjust water pressure with a pressure reducing valve. Sometimes, a simple bending of the float arm to reduce the filling of the tank might work.
What is a water tank in attic?
Cold water storage tanks are generally situated in the loft. They can be used to supply the hot and cold water taps on the bath. They can also act as a Feed and Expansion tank (F+E) for the heating system. Most of these tanks are fed by a ball valve on mains pressure. Problems that occur with water tanks vary.
What is the small water tank in the loft for?
The smaller tank is a header tank which is there to fill the heating system and provide extra space for the water to expand when heated.
Why is my cold water tank constantly filling?
My cold water tank is constantly filling. The float valve and ballcock were really old, so I went to a local plumbers merchant today and was advised to replace it. I did this earlier today, (part 1) for a (part 1) and have bent the arm to the required water level.
What happens if the float operated valve on a cold water tank fails?
If the float operated valve should fail, water will continue to enter the tank, raising the water level until it reached the overflow pipe, at which point the water will be discharged though the overflow pipe and, hopefully, give a warning of the problem.
Why does my hot water tank overflow when I use the mixer?
When you use the mixer, the high-pressure cold mains water pushes the low-pressure hot water back up the pipes into the cold water tank, causing the tank to overfill. If this is the case, you may notice that the overflow pipe only leaks when you use the faulty tap or shower.
How does a vented cold water tank work?
Cold Water Tank. The cold water tank in a vented cold water system stores the large volume of water to supply the hot and cold water systems that are not directly fed by the rising main. The water level within the tank is controlled by a float operated valve which is set to allow water to enter when the water level drops below the required level.

How long does it take for hot water to go back into cold water tank?
When the water is being heated on its own it is raising the water level in the large cold water tank up to a point where it overflows down the pipe at the roof eves. This happens over a period of a 90 mins (water is only heated for 20 mins).
