Why does my Pfister shower valve need to be adjusted?

What’s the difference between Pfister 0x8 and 0x7 shower valve?
My understanding is that there is no functional difference between the two model numbers, other than mechanical dimensions. I believe the 0X8 series valve is a newer, more compact series.
