How can I tell if my 240V fridge element is fried?

To check this, you have to select 240 V (make sure the knob is all the way over), set the thermostat to the coldest position ( so that the fridge is calling for cooling) and measure the resistance between the active and the neutral pins on the 240 V plug.

My neighbour had the mains element replaced in his fridge last week by the Dometic engineer. The fridge would not get cold on mains but was OK in gas. The only thing was, I asked if he left the old element behind but he didn’t. I would like to have tested it myself. Total cost of the job was £50 labour and £26 parts.
