Why is my heat pump cooling but not heating?
Low refrigerant charge – If your system is low on refrigerant charge, it won’t be able to keep up with either heating or cooling demand. Another sign of low refrigerant charge is a frozen coil. Bad reversing valve – If you have a heat pump not heating, but it works in cooling mode, you might have a bad reversing valve.
What to do if your heat pump is not working?
First of all, just check and make sure your unit was not accidentally switched to a/c mode. Next, check your outdoor unit is not iced over (see Heat Pump Troubleshooting Problem #1). If not, your system may have a valve problem, a refrigerant charge issue, or a compressor problem.
What to do if your HVAC system is not working?
Wait at least 30 seconds before checking for heat at an open register. If no heat comes out, turn the thermostat off. Confirm that the panel door on the furnace is closed. A switch inside the panel door allows the system to operate when it is fully engaged. If not engaged, the heater won’t come on.
How to troubleshoot furnace and air conditioner problems?
The furnace and the air-conditioner each have their own dedicated circuit breaker or fuse. Turn the circuit breaker off for the unit that is malfunctioning. Wait about 10 seconds and switch it back on. If you have fuses instead of circuit breakers, switch the main power off. Remove and replace blown, burnt or broken fuses.
What to do when no heat comes out in Your House?
Switch the thermostat to “heat” mode and set the thermostat 3 to 5 degrees above the room temperature. Wait at least 30 seconds before checking for heat at an open register. If no heat comes out, turn the thermostat off.
