Does the shower head determine water pressure?
Yes, while your water pressure is primarily dictated by how your plumbing is routed to the shower, there are several ways you can manually increase the water pressure in your shower. These solutions range from simply cleaning the showerhead to adjusting the settings on your hot water heater and more.
What is a flow restrictor on a shower head?
Water restrictors, commonly called flow restrictors, are designed to reduce the water flow in a shower head to 2.5 gallons per minute. Removing the water restrictor will return your shower pressure to normal, but it may also increase your water bills.
Why does my shower head pressure go down when I Turn on hot water?
Unequal pressure between hot and cold water at the showerhead means the clog is in the valve, not the shower head. If your shower water delivers great pressure when you have the valve handle turned to all hot or all cold and then you turn it the other way and the volume decreases, this tells you the issue is in the VALVE.
What to do if your shower head is not working?
Not all showerheads are designed the same and after removing one from the water supply pipe at the wall you may not see a plastic disk. If this happens and the flow of water from the supply pipe is adequate, just go buy a new shower head. Shower heads are readily accessible and they are a common replacement part.
