Does an RV generator charge the battery?
The generator in an RV uses a converter, which converts 120 volts to 12 volts, and is not designed to be a battery charger. Running the generator will charge the house batteries at a slow rate. Be sure all appliances are turned off to allow the generator to charge the battery.

Thank you very much. Generator and shore power both feed into an ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) that allows only ONE source of 120 VAC at a time. Then wires run from the ATS to the 120 VAC main breaker box. Trace shore power wire from side of coach to ATS is usually the easiest, OR from breaker box back to ATS.

I unplugged shore power, unhooked the red wire from the inverter unit and unplugged the telephone cord. Then I waited 5 minutes, re-connceted the red cord,plugged in the phone wire and plugged in shore power.

Why are Xantrex batteries not charging while connected to shore power?
If there is power coming in from the campground supply, and the batteries are still viable (i.e. will take and hold a charge), then we will need to figure out why the Xantrex isn’t getting the batteries charged up when connected to shore power. However, I’ll bet the answer is either #1 or #2. Let’s focus first on 1 and 2.
