The process of reverse osmosis reduces salt, minerals and any other impurities. RO systems are less efficient than water softeners, so they’re usually installed at a single point-of-use, like a kitchen sink, rather than used for the whole house.
How does a water softener without salt work?
Water hardness results from excess mineral content in the water, like calcium and magnesium. A salt-based water softener removes those minerals, thus lowering the hardness and creating softer water. On the other hand, a salt-free system works by crystallizing calcium, but not removing it.

What kind of filter does Aqua Pure use?
The AP110, supplied with 3M Aqua-Pure dirt/rust filters, is considered a standard cartridge for use on most “normal” water supplies. That is, those that don’t have visible particles. If visible particles are evident, and symptoms such as clogged aerators are noted, then the AP124 should be used.
