Can you put any toilet tank on any toilet?
When asking the question is a toilet tank universal, the short answer is no. While in certain brands they can be interchangeable, the overall consensus is that your toilet tank is fitted to your toilet model.

In fact, if you do your own mixing and matching, the toilet may not flush at all! Gravity Fed and Pressure Assisted tanks and bowls cannot be mixed.

How do you set a toilet tank on a bowl?
It’s just good insurance against having to go back draining, removing and re-installing the tank. After the bolts are tightened on both sides, install your flush valve gasket and proceed to set the tank onto the bowl. Tighten each bolt by alternating from side to side while having a level across the tank to check for level.
Can a toilet bowl be disassembled and replaced?
Two-piece toilet parts can be disassembled and sometimes replaced. The connection points between a toilet tank and bowl create an important seal, keeping water from leaking out of the unit as it passes from the tank to the bowl. If certain conditions are satisfied, it is possible to replace one of these items and continue to use the other.
Can you buy a toilet bowl and tank separately?
While all of the other hardware that goes into a toilet is normally available as aftermarket parts, I have never seen tanks and bowls sold separately, so I’m guessing if you can get them that way at all it’s going to be special order, and I would not be the least surprised to find it more than the cost of a whole new toilet.

A toilet tank to bowl gasket is also installed on the outside of the flush valve to prevent the toilet from leaking between the tank and the bowl. The tank is then attached to the water shut off valve using a supply line. Before installing a toilet tank, you may need to remove the old tank first. I will show you how to do that as well.
