The simple answer to your question is no it shouldn’t hurt to leave the slide outs open for a month or so. But there are times when it is not advisable to leave the slide outs open, especially if the RV is left unattended.

Why does my slide not retract after new motor?
After the new motor was installed, the slide still would not retract. The “square rods” connected to the motor were detached to assure the new motor was functioning. We found that power to the motor existed only when the “out” part of the slide’s in/out button was pushed. There was no power to the motor when the “in” side of the button was pushed.
What do I need to override the slideout system?
The room is now free to move. Using either a 5/8” or 3/4” wrench or socket, crank the room either in or out completely (depending on your needs). NOTE: If the slideout system is supplied with a gearbox override (optional), use the crank handle to move the room.

What to do when slide outs don’t slide in-RVing?
Consult with your owner’s manual to see if there is a way to close the slide out manually when the mechanism that is supposed to handle the job has failed. Most RV’s have some form of manual override to allow you to get back on the road successfully.
