Can PEX fittings twist?
No problem. The fittings are smooth, the PEX is compressed onto them. It would be impossible to install the stuff lined up perfectly every time, and it’s normal to twist them into line. If you have a problem with a crimp, it’s not recommended to re-crimp it.
How do I stop my PEX from spinning?
Just get the right thing. Silicone tape along the base of the SharkBite valve should keep it from rotating on the pipe. Make sure the silicone tape overlaps itself (that’s how it sticks). Make sure you allow enough time for the tape to fuse to itself as well.
Can you crimp PEX more than once?
Answer: Tech consensus from Sharkbite reps is that crimping more than once may be acceptable so long as the gauge tool fits well in the GO spot but still does not in the NO GO spot (meaing you did not overcrimp).
Can you reuse a PEX fitting?
When done correctly, it’s possible to reuse PEX fittings after the copper crimp rings have been removed.
How do I fix a leaking pex connection?
- Step 1: Remove the Broken PEX Connectors. Find the PEX tube that has a problem with the connectors.
- Step 2: Place in the Copper Crimp Ring.
- Step 3: Check the Connections.
- Step 4: Create the Compression Connections.
- Step 5: Finish the Push-Fit Connection.
- Step 6: Expansion Connections.
Is it OK for PEX fittings to rotate?
Is it ok for pex fittings to rotate? Using pex for the first time. Even after crimping, I find that valves and fittings rotate easily. Is that normal? I’m concerned that I may end up with a whole lot of leaks.
Can you re-crimp an existing PEX connection?
If you take apart an existing PEX connection, is it going to perform correctly if you re-crimp the same end of the tube – without cutting it – to a new fitting? Often with PEX you can flex it a bit and get a little more length, and probably if that is the case you should cut a fresh end.
How much PEX do you need for a plumbing post?
Cut off about 6 inches of PEX at the used end and add a coupling and then add about 8 inches or new PEX. You get virgin pipe and a bit extra slack this way. (why do these plumbing posts always sound like a set up for a lewd joke?)
How much does it cost to replace a crimp ring?
And if you try it and it turns out not to work because the connection leaks, it will only have cost you a ~$0.50 crimp ring, plus however long it took you to cut off the original ring. Cut off about 6 inches of PEX at the used end and add a coupling and then add about 8 inches or new PEX.

How do you put a crimp ring on a PEX tub?
Slide the PEX crimp ring and over the tubing approximately 2″ past the end. Fully insert the PEX fitting into the PEX tubing so that the fitting’s shoulder touches the tubing. Position the PEX crimp ring 1/4”-1/8” from the end of the tubing. This way the crimp ring will be right above the PEX fitting’s barbs. Open the PEX crimp tool’s jaws.

What happens when you make a connection with PEX pipe?
Due to the nature of PEX pipe, the strongest this connection will be is when it’s initially made. As time goes on, the pipe will resist the strength of the crimp ring. Additionally, the fittings are inserted into the pipe and create a restriction to water flow. This can possibly result in having to upsize system piping.
