Can a tiffin bus charge from the alternator?
I have a 2010 Tiffin Allegro Bus 43QRP. I’ve noticed that my coach batteries do not appear to be charging from the alternator when traveling. I talked to Tiffin just now and they claim that none of their coaches charge house batteries from the alternator. Does that match everyone’s understanding ? I thought they did charge while traveling

After dry camping, the house battery SOC might be 60% or about 12.3-12.4 volts. As soon as the engine is started, the voltage will increase to 13.6 volts. That voltage will not completely charge deep cycle batteries, as they need a three stage smart charger that can bring the voltage up to approximately 15.2 volts.
Why are the house batteries not charging on my Tiffin?
This is correct. I have 2011 Phaeton and have had the charge/boost solenoid fail causing house batteries not to charge via the alternator. You can check it with a meter – the two large terminals of the soliniod should read slightly differing voltage as one connects to the house batteries and the other the chassis batteries.

With the new system, there is a logic controller that determines when the batteries charge. You should have two large solenoids near the battery bank. One of them is the latching solenoid for the 12v house supply and the other engages when the engine is running.
