Can a generator be used in an enclosed space?
Note: If you must use an external generator, you should never operate the generator indoors since carbon monoxide gas can build up in enclosed spaces. The important thing to understand about renewable energy sources is that they are designed to charge your battery, not to provide you with on-demand power.
What happens when you connect to shore power in an RV?
Typically, the worst that happens is you blow fuses, but you could damage the power source or your trailer. When you connect to shore power at an RV park, there will be a circuit breaker on the pedestal. Remember to turn that on after you hook up to electricity, and turn it off when you disconnect to leave.
Is it dangerous to overdraw a generator in an RV?
Overdrawing a generator is not as risky as overdrawing shore power. If you try to overdraw a generator, you simply won’t get enough power to make everything run properly. Overloading your generator might damage some appliances, though it is not likely.
What should I do if my power converter is not working?
Use a non-contact voltage tester to ensure 110 volts are coursing in the circuit breakers by removing the panel and clamping onto a ground surface. If all is good in the center, you should go to the appliance (s) giving you trouble.
Is there a problem switching from shore power to generator power?
This is for folks that have a problem switching from Shore Power A/C to Generator Power. Gen runs fine but no power or the A/C does not work but outlets and basic service works. Be sure to there is not A/C present before working on Distribution Panel. This is for folks that understand Electricity and safety precautions.
Why do I have no power in my Generator?
The relay apparently pulled in when I started the generator to switch over to generator power. When I shut down the generator, the contacts were “welded” together and did not release to allow the relay to switch over to shore power. I manually broke the contacts lose and all was well.
Can a generator be used as a transfer switch?
On the other hand, if you are using a portable generator that you attach the shore power cord to, most of those do have a 12V-dc output but you will need a different set of leads to connect that directly to the RV batteries. If I pop the cover off the transfer switch, anything servicable?
Why do my lights not come on when not connected to shore power?
With 12 volts present when the charger is running when on shore power, one would suspect there is a wire routing issue, as you should get 12 volts from both the charger and or the batteries if things are connected properly. I have a feeling that you do not have 110 volts from the inverter output when you are not connected to shore power.
